A Taste Of California

One World Montessori School’s annual spring fundraising event, “A Taste of California,” features wonderful food, great California wines, fantastic music, and a collection of unique items to bid on at the live, silent and wine auctions. In addition to raising money for the school’s educational programs and to our scholarship fund, which has allowed hundreds of children of limited means to attend the school since 1979, the event is a chance for One World families and friends to enjoy a pleasant evening immersed in the feeling of community that has become One World over the years.

The evening is hosted by the Decathlon Club in Santa Clara, who serves up a variety of cheeses, butlered hors d’oeuvres, and a delicious light dinner. Attendees also enjoy an evening of wine tasting, courtesy of local California wineries (wineries who participated in the past include Adobe Road, Creekview, Fortino, Roudon Smith & Testarossa Vineyards).

Doug Ellington, the talented trumpeter and composer, provides the musical entertainment. He is the grand-nephew of the renowned Duke Ellington, and he certainly lives up to his ancestry! The live auction is hosted by our long time auctioneer, Chuck Whitman. He has a magical way of entertaining the crowd as he encourages bidding on the exciting items we have to offer. Packages auctioned at past events include:

  • Weekend in New York to see a Broadway play
  • Napa Valley wine country get-away
  • Gourmet cooking classes
  • Johnny Depp autographed “Pirates of the Caribbean” poster
  • Fire house dinner
  • Trip to Los Angeles, including VIP tickets to the “Ellen DeGeneres” and “Doctors” shows
  • Formula One car racing tickets
  • Trip to Mexico
  • Billy Crystal autographed script of “When Harry Met Sally”
  • Two adult off-road bicycles
  • Interior house painting
  • Sailing in the San Francisco Bay and helicopter ride over the Golden Gate Bridge

We hope you will join us each spring as we renew old friendships and establish new ones while contributing to continuing the education we are proud to provide.
