One World Montessori is a nationally recognized, premier Montessori environment serving children 2+ years through 12 years of age from communities in the greater San Jose area, and as far away as Santa Cruz and San Francisco, since 1979.
Our goal is to provide an education that focuses on encouraging and guiding those people who will, in turn, encourage and guide us in the future to be strong, independent, creative, skillful and caring individuals. One World is firmly rooted in Montessori’s philosophy for the creation of a more peaceful world. Through it, the school provides children with the tools they need to recognize, understand, and express their emotions in acceptable ways and to resolve conflict through empathy and compromise. One World also provides children with the skills necessary to achieve their goals, develop a sense of self, and make a unique contribution to society.
In the Elementary program (grades 1-6), the focus is on developing the whole child through interaction with an interdisciplinary curriculum, designed specifically to meet the needs of children at their changing stages of development. Children are divided into mixed-age groupings to foster peer-teaching and spontaneous group interaction. The teacher focuses on helping the children discover and fulfill their maximum potential, acting as a catalyst as they learn academic skills and to use their time effectively and wisely. This grouping nurtures the feeling of a community consisting of teachers, students and parents. Here, students are able to grow not only academically but also emotionally, socially and spiritually.

One World Montessori School is a non-profit corporation dedicated to providing an excellent Montessori education to diverse families at a reasonable cost. We are approaching our 40th year since incorporation. We provide services to approximately 200 children between the ages of 2 and 12. We have three campuses — all located near the Willow Glen area in San Jose, CA. They are within 15 minutes of each other and are staffed by 35 employees as well as several contract service providers. Since 1979, the school has been headed by Rebecca Keith, who is the only remaining member of its founding board. She and Jeanette Montoto, who has been with the school since 1981, are currently acting as Heads of School as well as members of the board. As Rebecca and Jeanette move toward retirement, we are dividing their academic, staff, student and curricular responsibilities between three campus heads and creating the position of business manager to take on the responsibilities of handling the financial operations of the school. The business manager would report directly to the Board of Directors.
Ability to analyze financial data, make projections, and assist in making financial decisions for the school
Knowledge of HR responsibilities and excellent people and communication skills
Fund raising experience
Grant writing experience
Ability to manage bookkeeper and three office managers
Ability to work collaboratively with three campus heads
Most importantly, a business manager would need to respect and be able to work comfortably within the culture of the school, realizing that the needs of the children, rather than making money, always come first. We will never compromise the quality of education that we provide for financial gain.
In person attendance is required for meetings and HR matters. However, we would be open to working remotely part of the time. Because this is a newly created position, we are willing to be flexible about hours and would work with the business manager to tailor the position to fulfill needs of which we may not yet be fully aware.
